Chinese and African Enterprises Participate In The China-Africa Equipment Manufacturing Industry Exhibition

Chinese President Xi Jinping, accompanied by South African President Jacob Zuma, Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe who is also the AU’s rotating president, together with other African heads of state, visited the China-Africa Equipment Manufacturing Industry Exhibition in Johannesburg on 4th December 2015. They were accompanied by government officials and business leaders. The exhibition was jointly organised by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) and the South African Department of Trade and Industry,.

The Chinese Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng presided over the opening ceremony whilst Presidents, Xi Jinping, Zuma and Mugabe cut the red ribbon to open the exhibition before touring the booths with other African leaders.

The China-Africa Equipment Manufacturing Industry Exhibition was held alongside the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Johannesburg Summit 2015. The exhibition offered visiting heads of state and business delegates an opportunity to experience some of the world-leading Chinese enterprises in the fields of rail-equipment, energy, telecommunication, agriculture machinery, construction material, intelligent manufacturing, aviation and banking.

The event was the first large-scale exhibition in Africa held by the two partnering sides. The introduction of Chinese large heavy machinery in Africa, not only reflected the depth of Sino-Africa cooperation in these areas, but also fully demonstrated the potential to further enhance the productive capacity and equipment manufacturing cooperation. Twenty-two African countries and more than thirty South African companies participated in the exhibition.
