Deputy President of South Africa attended China-SA Economic & Cultural Banquet in China

The Deputy President of Republic of South Africa Mr. Kgalema Motlanthe, who was conducting his official visit to China attended China-SA Economic & Cultural Banquet held on 29 October in the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing. The Deputy President was invited by the SA-China People's Friendship Association (SACPFA), Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) and Chinese-African People’s Friendship Association (CAPFA).

Other distinguished guests who were present at the Banquet included Mr. Manne Dipico, President of SACPFA, Mr. Abdul’ahat  Abdurixit, President of CAPFA, Mme. Li Xiaolin, President of CPAFFC, Mr. Feng Zuoku, Deputy President of CPAFFC, Mr. Tian Xuejun, Chinese Ambassador to South Africa, Mr. Bheki·Langa, South African Ambassador to China, senior officials of both governments and nearly two hundred well-known domestic business people relevant to South African economic, trade and cultural fields.

The Executive President of SACPFA, Mr. Tom Cao, made an early return trip to China to promote SA-China bilateral exchanges in economics, trade and culture and is working on preliminary activities of 2014 “South Africa Year” in China. Along with Mr. Tom Cao were other executive members of SACPFA, Mr. Zhang Zhengdi, Mr. Mark Wang, Mr. Bian Dequan and so on.

The Deputy President was accompanied by his delegation comprising of Ministers, Deputy Ministers from major government departments like Mineral Resources, Public Service and Administration, Tourism, Public Enterprises, Energy, DTI, DIRCO and other senior officials from the Department of Arts and Culture, Education, Science and Technology.

At the very time when welcome the coming Year 2014 as the “Year of South Africa” in China, SACPFA along with its friendly institution for cooperation CPAFFC all prospected to take this Banquet as a significant opportunity to vigorously promote bilateral cooperation and exchanges in the fields of economic, trade, culture and so on while eagerly explore a strategic development model for all-round, multi-level and wide-ranging bilateral cooperation in order to achieve win-win situation for both countries.

The trailer of the film "Long Walk to Freedom", depicting the process of growth of former South African President Nelson Mandela was played during the Banquet. The film was accomplished in 2012 and was endorsed by Nelson Mandela’s Family and obtained great support from the Nelson Mandela Foundation. The film is expected to be introduced to China in the near future by SACPFA as a tribute for the “Year of South Africa" in China and the development of friendship between two peoples. (END)
